Selling your home in 2016

    The new year is in full swing and you may be thinking of putting your house on the market this year.  And if you are – you may be in luck!!  According to Jonathan Smoke, chief economist for®,“The 2016 housing market is forecasted to be mainly a seller’s market, filled with increasing home prices, relatively low inventory, and fierce competition between buyers.”   However, there are still some things you need to consider to make the sale of your house a success!

    Listing your home during peak selling season is also very beneficial!  Here in Anchorage, we have a unique and very helpful peak season due to our local military base – Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.  PCS season is prime during the summer months – and the influx in and out of Anchorage is at its high, bringing more buyers to the table looking for the perfect place to call home, even if it is temporary.

    Offering incentives is another way to attract buyers.  Economist Smoke says, “The nature of this market is that you’re going to have more first-time buyers, who are more dependent on financing.”  This is so true here in Anchorage and with our military buyers.  We have lots of military who are first time buyers, looking to stretch their legs and move away from military base housing.  Offering incentives such as money towards closing costs can benefit you as the seller.  Getting financed for a loan and coming up with earnest money and down payment can be a lot for some!  Taking the load off of the shoulders of the buyers having to also come up with money for closing costs may make it easier for them to offer full price!
